Compatibility Testing Activities for Web Based and Desktop based applications

Hi guys,

I have some tast to be performed for Testing An application .....The Test Strategy says or focuses on Compatibility Testing both for Web Based and Desktop based application for the project.

Can any one tell me what all activities can be performed in general to achieve the same.
