The first steps to establishing some proper QA and Test are now being taken.
On the advice of the experienced QA guy that we've hired we're using Mantis as the bug tracking system. It's free so that's a huge selling point for it here and after setting it up this week ( straightforward and painless installation ) it seems to be easily configurable and customisable.
A little bit of hacking about with the php scripts that lie behind it and the bug report form is looking just the way we want it. I've never used php before but my programming background proved useful and it took only an hour or so to find out what to change.
All set to start testing and entering bugs, we'll start it off with the new project, get feedback and then hopefully start extending it's use to all the other projects.
No longer will bugs exist in numerous places, instead there will be one central place and a standard way of reporting them.
I'll give a further report on Mantis - and peoples reaction to having a proper system in place - once it has been up and running for a few weeks.
