June 2, 2009 - A New Tool in My Tester's Tool Box - StatOwl

Posted in Tools

There are plenty of sites that will give you browser usage statistics.  But I've just added a nice, new one to my Tester's Tool Box - StatOwl.

From their web site:

The information offered on this site provides valuable insight into Internet usage trends. We compile system data from numerous web sites and organize it into reports so you can stay current. We also put the power of market research and statistical analysis in your hands by allowing deep drill-down reporting as well as a powerful filtering system to limit data to only specific browsers, operating systems, search engines and even corporate versus residential usage!

StatOwl allows you to generate charts for the following:

  • Web Browser
  • Plugins
  • Operating Systems
  • Search Engines
  • Web Standards
  • System Settings
  • Network / Traffic
  • Google
  • Microsoft
  • Custom Reports

And for each chart, you can specify:

  • Timeframe
  • Interval
  • Chart Type

Of particular interest for me is the ability to filter the report to include only Residential or only Coroprate traffic.

The ad-supported, aggregate-only version is free and quite useful.  But StatOwl also offers paid packages that remove the ads, and allow you to track your own site as well.
