February 8, 2009 - Perhaps I Should Have Read More Closely - Old Segway News

Posted in QA

After receiving a brief email from a reader (he called me a moron), I have deleted my recent post about Segway recalls.  Let me tell you the sordid tale...

I routinely execute a Google query for recent news about software bugs.

As of this moment, this query http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&q=segway%20recall returns this result at the top:

Software glitch prompts Segway recall
Computerworld, MA - 14 hours ago
The voluntary recall applies to all Segway PTs sold to date, including all Segway PT i Series, e Series, p Series, XT, GT and i2 models. ...

And it suggests that the article was written 14 hours ago.

Now, of course, anyone with half a brain would click on the link and immediately see that the article was not from 14 hours ago, but was instead from 2006!

Well I did click on the link, and I did read the article, but the byline of

September 14, 2006

completely escaped my attention.  (Bad tester, bad tester!)

So I apologize to Segway, and to anyone who may have been misled by my (now deleted) posting.  The recall in the article was the same recall I already noted in a posting back in 2006.

And to the loyal reader - thanks for bringing this to my attention in such a short and sweet manner.  I can't guarantee that I won't make mistakes again, but I'll try harder next time not to be a moron.
