• 2006-Aug-23 - Mercury Quality Center 9.0

Recently I've downloaded the Mercury Quality Center 9.0 trial version to give it a try.  So far I like the Test Director.  It's pretty straight forward and very user friendly.  I am following the Test Director manual.  One of the feature I like about Test Director is there is a link between the tests and the requirements.  Hence some graphs can be used to show how many percentage of the requirements are covered by the tests.  If there are any changes to the requirement, we can know which tests are affected and hence needed a change.  Still more to read and more hands on...

Please share your ideas if you're using Mercury Quality Center.

Please keep us informed of what you find on this. We've been looking for something to try to turn tests and results into reportable information and so far have not had great luck.

I've had middling success with Mercury products so far, and with their recent acquisition it'll be interesting to see what happens. I'd like a way to keep some visual representation on Test Case Coverage, but none of the tools I have used in the past were good at dependency tracking.

• 2006-Sep-5 - Experience with Test Director

Posted by aakashvakil
I have been working with Test Director from a long time now and it is indeed a good tool for manual and automated test planning, execution, writing defect and generating reports.

I dont like the standard reporting options that they provide using front end. The options are too standard and do not meet the needs of my management.

I prefer to access the database directly and pool out data from there and export it to excel. Once in excel I can play with the data the way I want.

We have also come with an simple ASP web page that picks data directly from this database and displays it read only. This has helped us manage our work with limited licenses - like the developers got ASP webpage access where they can see what bugs are against their name and all the details. Once they want t update anything they login to TD.

Since Quality Center is enhanced version of TD, I am hoping they have some better reports that are usefull for reporting 'at a glance' status.

Happy exploring and update us when you find something new in QC.
