Jim's View on the world of Testing

Sorry!!

Sorry it has been a while since my last update on here, the truth is, I am just far too busy.

I am now flying solo in the test department (but only getting one wage for 2 peoples work) and the work is coming in Thick and fast!!

We are attempting to build a completely new system using Endeca, no-one in the business has ever used it before, so some research is needed for em to be able to test the new technology.  If anyone has any tips on Endeca and how to approach the testing of the web sites that are being driven by Endeca, your help would be greatfully received.

Anyway, i promise not to leave it so long next time.

There is still no news on whether they are going to recruit and if so who and at what level so i am just getting my head down, working as hard as i can and trying to prove i have the skills and confidence to be a Senior tester.

Signing off for now......

be careful

Having been there, done that and worn out the t-shirt...

when you are in a position like that it can feel good as you are really busy and cranking out the work
BUT you can be too busy and end up not doing the best job you can, then bugs get missed and people start to wonder what the point of testing is

If you try to do too much then you get spread too thin to be able to show what good testing can achieve
if you could show good results then the chances of them taking on extra staff would improve

good luck !

Thank You

Wise words Phil and thank you!

I am hoping not to be spread too thin but only time will tell

Actually I used to work for Endeca

Exactly what is it you are trying to test? Just the UI portion or the data aspect? When I worked there we did a lot of work on the data transformation pieces, making sure the pipelines were accurate and that data was put into the right format.

If its just UI then focus on paths that get you through the search engine and get you to specific data cases you want to review, making sure that searches bring up the right results and in viewing that the pages display the right data. If you are using the add-ons to display specials than you should make sure you have cases for those, but the only way to really know is by checking how the pipelines and groups are to be displayed in the management tools.
